While you and HP can argue the rest of the night away about the most accurate moniker for its a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/hps-12-1-inch-pavilion-dv2-dont-call-it-a-netbook/"Pavilion dv2/a, the dv3 is definitely an a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ultraportable/"ultraportable/a. The AMD-powered machine comes in a plethora of configurations with CPUs ranging from 2GHz (Athlon X2 QL-62) to 2.4GHz (Turion X2 Ultra ZM-86), ATI's Radeon HD 3200 graphics, up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, 160/250/320/400GB hard drive choices, WiFi / Bluetooth, a dual-layer DVD burner, gigabit Ethernet, an ExpressCard slot and a satisfactory array of ports including three USB 2.0 sockets, VGA, HDMI, eSATA combo (with a third USB port) and audio in / out. Users can select from a six or nine-cell battery, and there's even an optional fingerprint reader if you're unashamedly paranoid. Interested? It's available today, junior, for $799 and up.br /div class="postgallery"pstrongGallery: a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-greets-us-with-13-3-inch-pavilion-dv3-entertainment-laptop/"HP greets us with 13.3-inch Pavilion dv3 entertainment laptop/a/strong/pa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-greets-us-with-13-3-inch-pavilion-dv3-entertainment-laptop/1259474/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/hp-pavilion-dv3-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-greets-us-with-13-3-inch-pavilion-dv3-entertainment-laptop/1259473/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/hp-pavilion-dv3-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-greets-us-with-13-3-inch-pavilion-dv3-entertainment-laptop/1259472/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/hp-pavilion-dv3-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //a/divpFiled under: a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag"CES/a, a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag"Laptops/a/pp style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/hp-greets-us-with-13-3-inch-pavilion-dv3-entertainment-laptop/"HP greets us with 13.3-inch Pavilion dv3 entertainment laptop/a originally appeared on a href="http://www.engadget.com"Engadget/a on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 00:55:00 EST. We figured it was destined for a CES release, and HP has confirmed that today's the day. The hotly anticipated a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/23/hp-firebird-803-tower-with-voodoodna-leaked/"Firebird with Voodoo DNA/a has been properly introduced to the world, and within it will come an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, twin NVIDIA GeForce 9800S graphics cards in an SLI configuration, hot-swappable 320GB hard drives (two of 'em) and an advanced thermal management system to keep things cool, calm, collected and quiet. As a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/30/hp-firebird-gaming-towers-with-voodoodna-to-start-at-1-799/"we'd heard/a, the rig will be available starting on January 9th for as little as $1,799 directly from Voodoo, while those too frightened to hand over their credit card information online can hold tight 'til it hits select retailers (read: Best Buy, most likely) on February 1st. Have a look at Rahul Sood and team gloating ad nauseum over this thing just after the break.br /

Remember that a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/08/sling-announces-proof-of-concept-slingplayer-mobile-for-iphone/"proof-of-concept/a you saw way back in June of last year? You know, that one involving SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone? Here at a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Macworld/"Macworld/a, Sling Media is doing its darnedest to take the spotlight away from the looming a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/apples-final-macworld-keynote-is-tuesday-and-well-be-there-li/"Apple keynote/a by announcing that said app is almost ready for consumption. It'll be demonstrating a functional version in San Francisco, and it's planning to submit the software to Apple for certification sometime this quarter. In case you couldn't care less, it'll also unveil a prototype SlingPlayer for Mac HD, which will enable Mac-using a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/31/the-slingbox-pro-hd-addendum/"Slingbox PRO-HD/a owners to stream high-def material to their Mac. As for the good stuff, pricing has yet to be determined for the SlingPlayer iPhone app, but the SlingPlayer for Mac HD will be made available gratis. Rather than simply adding a new capacity option or throwing another adjective on the end (i.e. Ultra, Xtreme, Gnarly, etc.), a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SanDisk/"SanDisk/a is actually launching something in the flash drive sector that's worth paying attention to. The Ultra USB Backup is hailed as the planet's first USB key with simple backup software activation at the touch of a button, and with capacities up to 64GB, we'd say this is a pretty decent option for keeping your digital paraphernalia backed up sans an external HDD. In related news, the outfit has redesigned the long-standing a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Cruzer/"Cruzer/a to fall more in line with today's trends, effectively stripping the retro pastel hues and adding in "iconic new design language developed by global innovation firm frog design." The new bunch is expected in stores this April, with prices ranging from $24.99 to $99.99 for the Cruzer and $39.99 to $199.99 for the Ultra Backup. Hard to believe that the a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/20/necs-25-5-inch-h-ips-monitor-for-pros/"original LCD2690WUXi/a was introduced over two years ago, but the squared version is finally getting official here at Macworld. The 26-inch MultiSync LCD2690WUXiamp;sup2; packs an IPS active matrix LCD and is clearly aimed at pros and pros alone; some of the super swank features include 97.8% coverage of AdobeRGB, compatibility with NEC's SpectraViewIITM color calibrator, auto luminance control for consistent brightness and color, support for 12-bit lookup tables and an ambient light sensor. Additionally, you'll notice a 1,900 x 1,200 native resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 320 nits of brightness and a trio of selectable inputs (DVI-I, DVI-D and VGA). The panel is shipping as we speak for just $1,199, which ain't bad at all for a screen of this caliber.br /br /[Via a href="http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/01/05/nec.intros.26.inch.lcd/"Electronista/a]pFiled under: a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag"Displays/a/pp style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/nec-debuts-26-inch-lcd2690wuxi-for-professionals-at-macworld/"NEC debuts 26-inch LCD2690WUXi² for professionals at Macworld/a originally appeared on a href="http://www.engadget.com"Engadget/a on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 21:09:00 EST. Two new ones have arrived today from the labs of a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/LaCie/"LaCie/a, and neither are destined to ever end up inside of your PC. Up first, we've got the slightly speedier d2 external DVDplusmn;RW drive with LightScribe, which toasts discs at up to 22x and connects to PCs via USB 2.0 or FireWire (400, presumably). For those in need of HDD-based storage, the glossy black Hard Disk MAX comes with a pair of 1TB drives that can be set in either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration with the simple flick of a switch on the back panel. There's also a USB port on the front for additional expansion, and the USB 2.0 socket 'round back is what links it up with your computer. Both are available right now for $119.99 / $269.99, respectively.br /br /a href="http://www.lacie.com/company/news/news.htm?id=10445"Read/a - d2 external DVD burnerbr /a href="http://www.lacie.com/company/news/news.htm?id=10444"Read/a - Hard Disk MAXpFiled under: a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag"Storage/a/pp style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/lacie-intros-22x-d2-external-dvd-burner-2tb-hard-disk-max/"LaCie intros 22x d2 external DVD burner, 2TB Hard Disk MAX/a originally appeared on a href="http://www.engadget.com"Engadget/a on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 20:26:00 EST. You should've known that Canon wouldn't be able to a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/05/canon-comes-clean-with-hd-camcorder-lineup-at-ces-2009/"introduce a new family of HD camcorders/a without Samsung hitting back with a crew of its own, so it's with that in mind that we present Samsung's H-Series. The HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, and HMX-H100 all arrive with Full HD sensors and a Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens with Optical Image Stabilization, but it's the H106 that really steals the show. Said device is the first Full HD camcorder to incorporate a 64GB SSD within, while the H105 and H104 offer up 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively; as for the H100, you'll be providing your own SD / SDHC card before anything gets recorded. The whole crew utilizes H.264 compression, meaning that the big daddy can hold 12 hours of footage at Full HD resolution. Mum's the word on pricing / availability, but the full release is waiting just after the break.br /div class="postgallery"pstrongGallery: a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/"Samsung debuts H-Series of HD camcorders, first with 64GB SSD/a/strong/pa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/1259014/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/mini-hmx-h106-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/1259013/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/mini-hmx-h106_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/1259012/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/mini-hmx-h104-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/1259011/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/mini-hmx-h104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //aa href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/1259010/"img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/mini-hmx-h100_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" //a/divpa href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/" rel="bookmark"Continue reading emSamsung debuts H-Series of HD camcorders, first with 64GB SSD/em/a/ppFiled under: a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag"Digital Cameras/a/pp style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/samsung-debuts-h-series-of-hd-camcorders-first-with-64gb-ssd/"Samsung debuts H-Series of HD camcorders, first with 64GB SSD/a originally appeared on a href="http://www.engadget.com"Engadget/a on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 20:00:00 EST. Man, a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iLuv/"iLuv/a's on a roll like no other. Practically a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/iluvs-int170-internet-radio-alarm-appears-no-ones-too-excited/"every week/a since the a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/17/iluv-announces-i9500-ipod-cd-sound-system/"onset/a of December '08 the company has a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/30/iluv-rolls-out-ihd171-hd-radio-with-iphone-ipod-dock-itunes-t/"pushed out/a a new alarm clock of some kind, and it has apparently saved the big boy for CES. Announced today, the iMM183 Hi-Fi Dual Dock Alarm Clock with Weather Band Radio promises to charge both you and your lover's iPod / iPhone 3G while providing NOAA emergency alerts of impending weather-related doom. There's also an obligatory auxiliary input for non-Apple devices, and the LED warning indicator should do a decent job of telling you what sort of catastrophe is looming. Just remember -- HURRICANE ALERT =/ emRock You Like A Hurricane/em. The outfit's Wireless USB Display Adapter Set, which is a screen-centric variant of the kit a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/06/cables-unlimited-wireless-usb-kit-replaces-wires-with-dongles/"introduced/a back in November, will be available this quarter in the US and Europe. Based on Wisair's WSR601 Wireless USB single chip solution, the device offers up VGA and HDMI connectivity options, supports resolutions up to 1,400 x 1,050 and is USB-IF certified. If you're struggling to understand the purpose here, the two-piece bundle enables USB-equipped PCs to stream content to TVs, monitors and projectors sans cabling, and it'll do so for just $129. Watch out, a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/MP3/"MP3/a -- you've got a formidable opponent creeping up on you. All kidding aside (yes, we emwere/em kidding), Fraunhofer IIS is hoping that at least four people will turn from their MP3 / AAC addictions and embrace a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/fraunhofer-says-hd-acc-will-make-cds-obsolete/"yet another/a one of its audio formats at CES, which is simply christened MPEG Surround. Harald Popp, head of the Multimedia Realtime Systems department at the company, has asserted that the firm believes that "MPEG Surround will become a major online distribution format when downloading music, movie and TV content," noting that it offers "the music industry a way to sell iPod-compatible surround content through the existing stereo download infrastructure." We suppose the multi-channel aspect is at least somewhat noteworthy, but we still see a hard road ahead for it to gain "global acceptance" in 2009.pFiled under: a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag"Portable Audio/a/pp style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/fraunhofer-iis-to-push-mpeg-surround-as-next-big-downloadable-au/"Fraunhofer IIS to push MPEG Surround as next big downloadable audio format/a originally appeared on a href="http://www.engadget.com"Engadget/a on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 17:52:00 EST.
